#win HomeFree cookies are a great Valentines treat for food allergies **CLOSED**

Home Free cookies are made to be a healthful, delicious snack for everyone, including people with most special dietary needs.

Jill Robbins Founder:

"As a mom, and a clinical psychologist, I realize how important it is for kids with food allergies and sensitivities to feel included at social occasions, where a sweet treat is often part of the fun. I created HomeFree® bakery, with a line of delicious, wholesome cookies and cakes, as well as a
cookbook full of easy to make allergy friendly recipes, so that people with food allergies and other special dietary needs can enjoy treats along with everyone else. "

Delicious & Unique

The company began with the name Gak’s Snacks. Now it is called HomeFree cookies.  They are all natural, and many are additionally certified organic.
These unique cookies are expensive to produce due to features of great value! In order to have the highest possible control over the quality and allergy safety of their products they do not do the common, significantly less expensive practice of contracting with “co-packers,” where someone else bakes and packages the products in a kitchen shared with other products. Rather, they have their own dedicated facility for their products only. Then they make their products from high quality, wholesome ingredients including 100% whole grain flours, natural chocolate and cocoa powder, apple sauce, fruit juice, and non-hydrogenated oils. Further, most of their ingredients are certified organic. They source all of the ingredients with great care, always choosing allergen safety over price. Additionally they conduct allergen testing for peanut, almond, egg, and milk proteins on every batch of ingredients as well as on random batches of finished product. Finally, they bake in small batches, take time for allergy education, and donate regularly to food pantries and to allergy related organizations. All this so you can feel home free with “treats you can trust!”

About these cookies!!!
The large Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies and the Vanilla Mini Cookies are certified 70% organic by the NH Dept. of Agriculture, Markets & Food. They make two versions of their popular Chocolate Chip Mini Cookies and Oatmeal Cookies - one that is organic and one that is all natural and gluten free. HomeFree coffee cakes are USDA 95% organic. They have additionally taken the step of getting some of their most popular cookies Non-GMO Verified.

COFFEE CAKE

Their award-winning coffee cakes are so moist and delicious, you won’t believe what’s not in them! Peanut free, Tree nut free, Egg free, Dairy free and no soy except lecithin; their cakes are also certified Organic, Vegan and Whole Grain so they are a guilt-free indulgence for children of all ages

The only soy ingredient  in their facility is soy lecithin, which is used in small quantities in all of their baked products except for their large oatmeal and mini vanilla cookies. Soy lecithin at times can contain small amounts of soy protein. Most, but not all, people with soy allergies are able to tolerate small amounts of soy lecithin.
The chocolate chocolate chip cookies contain 7 grams of whole grain, almost ½ a serving. And all of their other products contain at least 8 grams, and therefore proudly bear the whole grain stamp. Imagine, a cookie being a good source of whole grain! And the kids devour them happily.
They have a very long shelf-life wrap, you can keep them in the cupboard at home or school for up to 6 months after they bake them. They freeze great too for even longer freshness, or for delicious ice cream sandwiches with dairy, soy, or rice ice cream. The coffee cakes are shipped frozen.
They are "OK" certified as Kosher Pareve. The pareve means that none of their ingredients, products, or equipment has ever had contact with any dairy product.

THE TASTE TEST:
What did we think? We thought they tasted amazing! No one has any food allergies in our house that we know of.. but I much enjoyed these cookies and the kids did too! Devonny had a bit of trouble chewing them, because she doesn't have all her back teeth. One thing about these cookies is even with her slobbering on them (lol) they didn't really soften up! To me, the crispness is great- as I love a crisp cookie. The box is rather small, but filled to the top. It is around the same size as a girl scout cookie box of cookies. I liked the Chocolate-chocolate chip cookies best!!! The cookies lasted about a week. They were much better than I thought they would be. I had to make myself put them away! The cookies are about the size of a half dollar, so on the small side. Giana happily packed them up in her lunchbox to take to school, and did not bring them back home, as she sometimes does with her healthy snack I pack her.

PRICE

A box with  six boxes/varieties of cookies cost is $29.95 and one box retails $5.49

Why hOMEfREE KICKS allergy BUTT!
Although gluten is not an allergen, the cookies not only allergy friendly, but gluten free as well. They use great care in their facility to prevent cross-contamination, conduct tests on random batches for gluten traces, and are a certified gluten free facility.

For more information on differences between celiac disease, gluten intolerance, and wheat allergy, see: http://americanceliac.org/celiac-disease/

There is no wheat in the ingredients or facility. They also randomly test for traces of gluten. Organic is important to us, and to many of the customers, and there are not yet organic wheat/gluten-free oats available. Because most oats in this country can contain traces of wheat, they don’t call the organic cookies “wheat free.”
There is a small amount of corn starch in the baking powder they use, and vanilla extract is made with corn based alcohol. There is no baking powder in the oatmeal cookies or mini oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
They also noted people latex allergy and use only non-latex gloves in the kitchen.

Do you ship outside the United States?
Three flavors of HomeFree boxed mini cookies (Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, and Vanilla) are now available in Canada! Note that Chocolate Chocolate Chip is called Double Chocolate Chip in Canada. If you do not see HomeFree cookies in your local store in Canada, just ask!

On being GREEN
Many of  their products are certified organic, thereby contributing to the health of our water and of our children. Further, the packaging is made from recycled materials, & the packing “peanuts” are made from corn starch, and their cookie boxes and brochures additionally are made with wind power. They only use the packaging they need: You will find little extra space in their boxes, and large cookies are in stay fresh packs rather than the traditional plastic disposable trays.

My son sampled these at the allergist and he fell in love with them. It's so nice to know that he can have a safe treat that is FINALLY not cooked at home by me! He was excited to know that they were not only safe but that they tasted good, too!!!!

I really want to win. My 5 y/o has a severe peanut allergy and we are just learning about the world of dedicated bakeries... trying new things is very exciting for him and for me to not have to make everything is a blessing. Now he can take treats to share with his class and not be afraid of other people's crumbs!
