We want our food fast, convenient and cheap, but at what cost? As farms have become supersized, our environment suffers and so does the quality of our food.

SheIn -Your Online Fashion Fall jackets

I want to give you a heads-up on the nationwide release of this new documentary from award-winning director Susan Rockefeller coming on Food Day on Oct. 24.
Food For Thought, Food For Life aims to start a conversation about what we eat and actions we can take on important food issues. "We want our food fast, convenient and cheap, but at what cost?" It has screened at film festivals around the world this year.

NEW DOCUMENTARY FOOD FOR THOUGHT, FOOD FOR LIFE FROM AWARD-WINNING DIRECTOR SUSAN ROCKEFELLER TO BE RELEASED NATIONWIDE ON FOOD DAY THISOCTOBER 24, 2015
Newest Documentary From Filmmaker and Creative Conservationist Who is Using Short Films to Get More People Turned Onto Important Causes
FOOD DAY inspires Americans to change their diets and our food policies through more than 8,000 events nationwide

Screening at EatingWell.com From October 5-12 ahead of Nationwide Release; Entire Film Available for Screening Online at Media Sites Upon Request
WASHINGTON, DC – Every October 24, thousands of events all around the country bring Americans together to celebrate and enjoy real food and to push for improved food policies. This year Food Day is partnering with award-winning filmmaker, designer and philanthropist Susan Rockefeller to release her acclaimed new documentary Food For Thought, Food For Life for free online and in conjunction with thousands of events nationwide.
The mission of the 20-minute film – which was an official selection at the Short Film Corner at Cannes 2015 and at the 2015 Sarasota Film Festival and other top festivals – and its extensive nationwide outreach campaign is to start a conversation about the food system, bringing everyone to the table to address how we think about, produce, and choose what we eat, and to make lasting changes as individuals, communities, and for our earth as a whole.
“We are thrilled to partner with Susan Rockefeller on the online release of this remarkable film,” said Food Day campaign manager Lilia Smelkova. “By providing our partners at over 8,000 events nationwide with access to the film we can ensure Food Day will impact in even greater ways in 2015. This film is inspiring and will serve to energize those who will be participating in Food Day events across the country.”
“It’s an honor to partner with Food Day and to play a role in helping reach millions about the food issues that affect each one of us,” said Susan Rockefeller.
ABOUT THE FILM
We want our food fast, convenient and cheap, but at what cost? As farms have become supersized, our environment suffers and so does the quality of our food. Food for Thought, Food for Life, a new documentary from director Susan Rockefeller (HBO’s Christopher Award-winning documentary Making The Crooked Straight, Planet Green’s A Sea Change) explains the downsides of current agribusiness practices, and also introduces us to farmers, chefs, researchers, educators, and advocates who are providing solutions. The film is both poetic and practical; its powerful examination of the connections between our planet and our well-being is accompanied by specific strategies that protect both. With an eye towards a sustainable and abundant future, it offers inspiration for communities that are ready to make a difference.
Punctuated by the words of environmentalist Wendell Berry, earth-inspired artwork, and uplifting music, the film highlights organizations and people doing things right. From the forward-thinking practices of Chef Dan Barber and Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture to guerrilla gardener Ron Finley’s transformation of urban neighborhoods, the ways we can start a revolution are varied and exciting.
“I sought out to develop a film that educates people about the negative impact our current methods of agriculture have on the earth,” said Rockefeller, a creative conservationist and social entrepreneur. “In addition to providing vital information, the film gives viewers the necessary tools to make a difference in their own lives. It explores the connection between the planet and our health and suggests that strengthening that connection will only benefit our future.”
“In everything I do – from my previous documentary Mission of Mermaids to my jewelry collections – my goal is to start a conversation about the things I’m most passionate about and empower people to take small actions that produce big changes,” Rockefeller continued. “Conversation leads to collaboration, and together we can find local and global solutions that help the planet and ourselves. Food Day is the perfect partner in our work to bring attention to these vitally important issues.”

As seen on Fooduciary - Chemical Calories: When Lettuce is More Fattening than a Burger

By Brad from Fooduciary.com.
Environmental chemicals known as obesogens are found in many places, including pesticides used on conventional produce. They program our bodies to store fat and develop disease, and do so to such an extent that in theory a head of conventional romaine could actually cause more weight gain than a grass fed burger.

"Obesogens belong in the class of chemicals known as endocrine disruptors. This class of toxins simulates the effects of natural hormones and disrupts normal hormonal responses. In terms of weight gain, "chemical calories" may actually be more significant than the caloric value of those calories.

How do obesogens exert so much influence? One method is by disrupting the normal release of leptin, the hormone that tells the brain you're full. In addition, obesogens encourage the body to store fat by reprogramming cells to become fat cells, and they also contribute to insulin resistance. What’s more, they're inflammatory substances, producing oxidative stress, damage the body's energy source, mitochondria, which then has a cascade of negative after effects.
Certainly some people are more sensitive to these toxins than others, though some are highly susceptible. Obesogens can have significant effects on children in utero, causing the fetus to produce more fat cells and increasing the likelihood of childhood obesity.

#myBlogSpark Italian Days – Taste the Tradition event at Publix - February 11th through March 1st

Enter to win a 25$ Gift Card to Publix below. Ends 3/15.

Publix is my favorite grocery store!!! Publix has a clean store, friendly employees, great sales, everyday prices and lots of BOGO offers. I love that their deli is fantastic, fresh and fast. They have the biggest organic section of any store I have ever seen that is not a store specializing in organics. They even carry grass fed beef, which I only eat, and no other store local to me has. Impressive.

I love Publix because they always have fresh (free) coffee, the bathrooms are always immaculately cleaned. Gosh there are so many reasons. My daughter loves them because she can go to the bakery and get a "free cookie". They have brands no one else has, and they even have hard to find varieties that no other stores have. For instance they have some varieties of Campells soup I have never seen at other stores.

It's easy to get in and out too. If you have a local Publix and don't shop there, your missing out. They can take a boring stressful shopping episode and make it fun! They obviously can't stop your babies from crying, but they take away all of the other stresses that accompany shopping, that is for sure. They have great coupon policies too. I have never been greeted with anything less than fabulous at our local store here in Kingsland. I will choose our store over all the grocery stores in this area, which include a Winn-Dixie, WalMart, Commissary, Harveys...

Italian food is always a huge crowd pleaser. Whether you’re feeding your hungry family or hosting a household of friends, everybody loves the taste of al dente pasta, a rich sauce or a delicious pizza.

At the Italian Days – Taste the Tradition event at Publix® from February 11th through March 1st, you can get great prices and coupon savings* on some of your favorite General Mills brands like Green Giant and Progresso. Plus, get great savings on many ingredients for great Italian recipes like Alfredo pizza and stuffed chicken manicotti.
And that’s not all! During the event shoppers will be able to enter for a chance to be 1 of the 500 shoppers that will win a $100 Publix® gift card! To enter for a chance to win and to download great coupon savings and delicious recipes, look in-store or visit www.clickcallmail.com.**

I used the 25$ gift card they sent me to make 2 dishes!!!
The Italian dish was Italian Sausage Spaghetti. (Double Italian!)
Here's how I make it:
I prefer Angel hair pasta
any Italian sausage will do, but I especially love the polka kielbasa pre-cooked kind.
I use 2 jars of pasta sauce
I cut the sausage in slices and/or dices of varying sizes, some big and some small. I stir it into my sauce on medium, I will add onion, mushroom, bell pepper, and seasonings  usually garlic and parsley or basil. Boil the noodles to desired firmness/softness.
Drain, I like to stir a spoonful of olive oil into the drained noodles before mixing the sauce and noodles together in a big bowl.

 Prep time: 10 min.
Cooking time 20 min.
Total time from start to table: 30 min.

The second recipe I made was  8 ingredient/can chicken taco soup.

I use:
2 cans of diced tomatoes.
3 Chicken legs, boiled, de-boned and pulled. The original recipe I saw called for canned chicken, which I think has a funny texture.
I used 1/2 a jar of salsa, instead of the recommended green enchilada sauce.
1 can Cream of Chicken soup.
1 can of Black beans
1 can of Pinto beans
1 can of whole kernel corn
1 can of chicken broth.
1 package of Taco seasoning.

Instructions? Well mix it all together! Easy peezy lemon squeezy. We used fritos and tostitos scoops to dip and crumble into our soup. It made a huge pot, and we are actually eating it's leftovers tonight!~

Prep Time 5-10 min.
Cook time 20 min.
Total time from start to table 30 min.

You can enter to win a 25$ gift card here on this blog by placing ONE comment (with your email address please) stating desire to win!
The other entries include (in any order)
This giveaway will end on March 15th at NOON Eastern. The winner will receive the exact prize a I received, a 25$ Publix gift card, that you can use to buy anything in the Publix store. Fabulous, no?

Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil #giveaway

Win 1 quart of Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil!
Tropical Traditions is America’s source for coconut oil. Their Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil is hand crafted in small batches by family producers, and it is the highest quality coconut oil they offer. You can read more about how virgin coconut oil is different from other coconut oils on their website: What is Virgin Coconut Oil?

Tropical TraditionsIf you ever get on Pinterest, you have to check out the Tropical Traditions Pinterest page! I like this board best, the Coconut DIY Board. I was one of the reluctant ones when Pnterest first started, but now I'm all aboard  If you want to follow me on Pinterest, I follow everybody back, and my Pinterest is the same as my Twitter, Facebook, Blog and LinkedIn profile urls. You will find me on just about any site as "1caseycolette" (there can only be one!)  Actually, there isn't. There is also a woman by the name of Colette Casey on Facebook I found.. freaky. I wonder if she's my mirror image opposite doppelganger.

Moving on to other more important things, such as:
Why do you want to win this coconut oil??

Well, for numerous reasons. This coconut oil is minimally processed and GOLD LABEL. It is very high quality, and tastes quite good in most any recipes. I like to add it into my smoothies. I buy a bag of frozen fruit (whatever your preference, but I most like mango, strawberry peach blend.) I will add a few spoonfuls of yogurt, a little juice/water/milk, again- your preference, your palette.  And of course, a spoon (or two) of this Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil.

I love Tropical Tradition's fast delivery & the many ongoing sales of their products which gives the consumers a chance to try them & save more. I highly recommend Tropical Tradition's products, especially their coconut oil & the company itself as a whole. I will be a fan for life and looking forward to try the rest of its healthy products!

This isn't a food/recipe blog, and I don't really follow directions anyway.. I'm a rule breaker. It's more of a judge by your eye and belly type thing. I kinda tend to just throw all the stuff together and it's always really tasty. I can adjust it for flavor after the first initial trial. You'd think the food/dish would turn out questionable, but not to brag, but I must  have a flair for cooking, since it's always REALLY good. Then again, I am not extremely picky anyway. I just likes me some food! I have found that stirring in a spoon of Matcha green tea powder also makes the fruit and coconut oil smoothie taste even better. Matcha tea is good for you, same as coconuts are!

I also do like to stir in coconut oil or use it in place of vegetable canola/olive oil in the kitchen  but keep in mind, it does add a coconut flavor to the dish. It has a strong taste, but if you like coconuts as much as I do, it shouldn't bother you.
I keep meaning to try it with coconut shrimp. Man, oh man- shrimp and coconuts together? I'll be in heaven. Extra COCONUTTY shrimp. YUM!~

If you aren't like me, and you follow recipes and directions to a T, you are probably sorely disappointed by my "recipe" above. Again, sorry- not sorry!
BUT you can find a whole BUNCH of coconut oil recipes here: Freecoconutrecipes.com & here

How to Use Coconut oil: There are hundreds of uses for coconut oil!

Tropical Traditions also carries other varieties of affordable high quality coconut oil. Visit their website to check on current sales, to learn about the many uses of coconut oil, and to read about all the  advantages of buying coconut oil online. Since the FDA does not want us to discuss the health benefits of coconut oil on a page where it is being sold or given away, here is the best website to read about the health benefits of coconut oil.

I was excited to see this on the sidebar of their homepage:
