Top 5 Candy Bars for College Students

On-the-go college students don't have a lot of time to waste when it comes to eating. Usually their meals consist of whatever the nearest vending machine has in stock. Most of the times these foods are low in nutritional value and high in fat. But if you are going to eat candy and junk food, you might as well make the best choice possible for your health. Here are a list of the 5 best candy bars to eat when you're on the run:

1.      Snickers. While slightly higher in calories(273) and fat (14 g) than the other candy bars mentioned below, this candy bar can at least redeem itself with its 4.5 grams of protein and 53 grams of calcium. While a good choice, there are still better candy options.

2.      Peanut M&Ms. Anything with nuts in it is generally a good choice if you want a “healthy” candy bar option. Peanut M&Ms have the same amount of protein as a Snickers, but fewer calories (243), a tad less fat, and about the same calcium. Also an excellent choice, but still not quite as healthy as the following.

3.      Hershey bar with Almonds. This bar is excellent since it only has 210 calories. While fat content is as high as a snickers, and protein evens out at 4 grams, it can be a good choice for chocolate lovers who want the extra energy that the small amount of caffeine in chocolate gives.

4.      Reese's Pieces. With  7 grams of protein and 73mg of calcium for only 258 calories, it's not bad as far as candy goes and can even give you a decent serving of the nutrients your body and mind need most to stay focused.

5.      Butterfinger. This is possibly the winner among “healthy” candy. Are you surprised? With 5.5 grams of protein and 216 calories, this is higher protein, low calorie option. It also has a lower fat content than most, with only 8.5 grams. The only area where it's lacking is in its low calcium count, just 12mg, which is practically nothing as far as calcium goes. But you can make up for that by buying a vending machine bottle of milk with your candy bar!

Next time you hit up the vending machine for a quick snack, I hope you seriously consider the data presented in this article. Ok, I know you really wont! However, at least now you can't say you ate an unhealthy candy bar in ignorance. Now hop to it and start eating “healthy”, it'll help you focus better in class, plus give you a nice little sugar rush to keep you from falling asleep during class. They don't call it the “freshman 15” for nothing!
