For instance:

 I know when you have a sick kid and you have to call military doctor and insurance care provider Tricare South's (& North actually) after hours line, when a nurse calls you back, one of the things they tell you to give a child with strep, a flu, or sinus, and cold's is HONEY!
   Back in old days, honey was used as a medicine for many ailments, and is still recommended by doctors and health care advocates alike.
       In ancient times in Egypt and in Africa (among other places), they use honey to treat and prevent as well. They actually worshiped the honey bee, and they werent wrong at all for it. The bee is NECESSARY to our life on earth.

 I am not a doctor, but you can find any article online nowadays saying basically the same thing.  

  As I get older I find that the skin, our largest organ absorbs all the toxins (or good things) we put on our bodies and affect our quality of life. It would sicken you to know how many chemicals are in everyday products. It is a lot more widely known now, because of internet and technology.  These chemicals, we breathe them when we wipe our counters. We apply them to our hair to not just dye, but style- and wash and condition. It would be expensive to replace all of the products in our home, so I think moderation is key.   If honey is good for the body's insides, then it would be just as good for our outsides, right?

What’s more, they're inflammatory substances, producing oxidative stress, damage the body's energy source, mitochondria, which then has a cascade of negative after effects.

Certainly some people are more sensitive to these toxins than others, though some are highly susceptible. Obesogens can have significant effects on children in utero, causing the fetus to produce more fat cells and increasing the likelihood of childhood obesity.

I'm getting a nice visual of that commercial (isn't it for insurance?) where the girl is saying, "Oh, you didn't know? Everything on the internet is true?" and she goes on a date with her "french model boyfriend" .. who isn't a french model at all. (See video below) 



My point is, sure a lot of the stuff you read on the internet has only a grain of truth, or worse-- none!

All that aside, taking multi-vitamins during pregnancy is important. A lot of women don't take multi-vitamins everyday for a number of reasons..most of which I feel are extremely selfish  I took a prenantal, a calcium chew (which left a GOD awful taste in my mouth most of the entire day..) and even DHA/Aha supplements..

The main concern I think about pregnant women is probably taste. But the pills can also be large...

When your pregnant, we all know- your sense of sex, smell, and taste are heightened so much!

I used to tell my husband I could smell someone grilling meat in the next town!  A joke, but you know what I mean...

I could smell perfume rooms away. If you are pregnant, just know-- you can keep this heightened sense of smell for MONTHS after pregnancy...  which enables you to smell dirty diapers from adjoining rooms in your house!

I'm becoming my mom. What I mean to say is: I am stuck in the old days, when new ways are in-fact better, and I'm too stubborn to admit it/try them/realize.

Almost every-time the kids and I get sick.. what do I do?
Break out the Chicken Noodle Soup, the honey, and yes, the Warm Mist Humidifier.
This thing  is  was a constant source of stress. I mean, it was messy, unattractive, I had to have salt to make it work.. which might not be a task for some- but since my husband has very high BP we don't keep it around a lot.

Not only was it high maintenance, but it hurt my kids several times (Burning them with the hot steam), and spilled on the carpet too. Not cool.

And O.M.G. you should see how filthy the thing makes the water after about 24 hours!!!
          GROSS!

I knew there was such a thing as a "cool mist humidifier" but I never bought one.. well-- because I am cheap.
There, I said it.

I browsed and priced them, but 30-40 seemed excessive to me..

That was then, this is now! Now that I have seen them in action, I know that 40$ is actually a steal!

As I was saying... These cool mist humidifiers kinda remind me of the misters you see that spray the gardens at the zoo during the hottest days of summer.

They are almost magical.

Ironically when we were sent it in the mail for review, we were already sick. Isn't that about how it works?

In fact, every time we'd get better, we'd just get sick again!
 Where we live on the GA/FL state line, the weather has been so wonky this year, that it only stays cold long enough to make everyone get sick, then it's sweltering hot again. 
It is literally still in the upper 80s here.. and it's NOVEMBER!

My friends back home in Alabama say I'm lucky for such warm weather.. but I don't think they know what they are wishing for!!!!  You don't want to wish for that, trust me.  I do think it contributes to us being sick a lot.

I like knowing that Oscar is (& has been) there for us, throughout these season's changing, seemingly always sick times.

On another note: if you have never seen a cool mist humidifier operate, then you have got to see it!! Video below.
A gallon of water turned on low can last practically days in this thing. Its truly fascinating. I'm all, " How does it work??!"  I really think they need to put these neat contraptions on an episode of that popular Television show How Stuff Works, or How It's Made.
( I don't know the name of the show. )

Their Animal products are called "Adorables" and that they are! If the cutesy whimsical design of these doesn't call to the kid in you, they also have really neat Drop Shaped Humidifiers too!

I loved the Enjoy Life CRUNCHY Vanilla Honey Graham cookies, but the kids only let me get one of them. They were slightly broken when arrived, but very tasty and wholesome indeed!

The one product I have no use for (sorry, it's a good brand though, and a brand I have used, I just have no use for this product) was this huge bag of Bob's Red Mill GF Whole Grain steel cut oats.

At last, oats that people with celiac disease or gluten intolerance can enjoy, too! Available in three varieties--Rolled, Quick-Rolled and Steel Cut--and made from oats grown by our cooperative of over 200 farmers dedicated to growing only pure, high-grade oats. Each farm delivery is sampled hundreds of times and tested with an R5 ELISA gluten test to ensure the absence of gluten. Advanced color-sorting removes undetected impurities. Roasting enhances that wholesome robust flavor you expect. Finally, the oats are packaged in our 100% gluten free facility and tested for gluten again to ensure their purity. I am not Suzy Homemaker, so I would prefer to buy breads, as opposed to making them from scratch. I do make recipes from scratch on occasion, but it's not very often.

My favorite product in the box was the Better Batter Gluten-Free all purpose flour. 
I use flour to thicken white gravy, make pancakes, cookies and more.


The product no one in the house liked was the Lifemax  MILA: The Miracle Seed -- Chia Seeds, when we got a cold I tried mixing them in drinks, as suggested on the package.. however-- this failed miserably. It made our drinks taste horrible and we had a hard time downing them. I even mixed them into muffins, again, they made the food have a strange texture. They are extremely healthy and expensive, a lot of research has gone into them.

I don't know if you guys remember Chia Pets, and you wet the seeds and they gel  up with a gelatin like substance? 
This does exactly the same thing once moisture touches it.

While I do dislike telling you I didn't particularly care for a product, it is my duty to be honest with you. But it doesn't necessarily mean you won't enjoy the product. People do have different opinions of things!!!

 I think it was just the luck of the draw. I don't know what I will use the Oats for, but perhaps next time my mother visits from out of town she can show me how to use them in a recipe. My mother's a darn good cook! I think the box for us would've been the July box. Go to the site and peep that one! Wonder what will be in the next 3 boxes? October, (coming soon) November and December!

My husband just had his 30th birthday, so I got to use the better batter to make his favorite recipe: banana nut bread!

Here's my recipe for the Banana Nut Bread:
I did have to use almost the entire box of Better Batter to make it though.

BANANA  NUT  BREAD :

2 & a half cups of Better Batter All-purpose flour mix
1 cup of sugar, I used Wholesome Sweeteners Organic
3 and a half teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt
3 teaspoons of Light EVOO
3/4 cup of 2% milk
4 medium to large sized bananas VERY RIPE!!!
1 cup of nuts finely chopped, pecans & walnuts work best.
1 egg
_________________________________________________________

Beat medium speed all of the ingredients for 30 seconds.
Grease & flour a 9 x 5 x 3 pan.
Pour mixture in pan, careful not to fill more than halfway for room for bread to rise.
BAKE on 350 degrees for 55 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
       ALL DONE!   ENJOY!!!

My favorite item as of yet has been the Essie TopCoat clear nail polish. I guess I am really that simple. I loved the brand Essie from Klout giving me free perks, from them... so I knew it was a good brand. This might sound silly, but I prefer the shape, or more really- the height of their bottles. I have a nail polish shelf, and the tall bottles pose problems. These are short, and fit underneath quite nicely. Also, not too big as to dry out before you use it all, from air trapped in the bottle when it becomes emptier.

You can see in this picture how the 3 Essie Polishes have smaller, lower profile bottles. I like that!

All the colors in the picture above, on my baby who is 2, and sits very still and girly-like and lets me paint them!

I haven't used the Badger Balms yet, or the Fabric softener, still using up the last bottle, so I'll have to get back to you on those, next week. BUT- I did get a chance to try the conditioner, and I do love it. I don't know why I cannot find it on their site, but I cannot. I assume when I bought it on sale it was because it was being taken off the site for products that sell better?

The only other products to tell you about right now then are these two, Kae (Formerly Kaeline) Bath Oil Soothing Concentrate & Burts Bees Therapeutic Bath Crystals (1 lb) I got the Kae for a steep discount ( $25.73 )  they had it almost 1/2 off when I bought it, or I never would've. Even at 25$ I expected to get a little more than what I got. What I got was a tiny bottle of oil. I bought both the Burt's Bees and the Kae because they are listed on the site as helping to naturally heal body aches & pains. My back, knee and hip hurt constantly, so I figured it was worth a shot.


The oil itself doesn't smell particularly pleasant, but it's not offensive either. It definitely smells herbal. The Burt's Bees in fact- also smells not pleasant. Except while they do both smell herbal-y the Burt's Bees smells more like Ben-Gay ( or menthol-like).. and I do not like menthol. At all.

The oil; Kae, was so tiny, it's almost laughable. I do not pay attention to sizes and .fl amounts, I wrongly assumed for 50$ (or the right under $30) I paid with my sponsorship gift certificate, that this would be a BIG bottle. It's not much bigger than a tall shot glass.

Actually, I was in excessive pain one day, and put BOTH in the bath, and the family was complaining about the smell., but once you marinate in it a while you get old factory fatigue to it, so it's only offensive smelling (they claim) to the others in the house.

Does it work?

If you are expecting me to tell you that it was a miracle cure, I cannot. But it did help me relax, and  so I did feel better when I got out of the tub. I have used both products quite a bit since I got them, as you can see in the picture.

It did seem to help a bit, but I do want to warn you, these crystals are OUCHIE painful. I sat on a few that hadn't "melted" into the bath water, and it felt like I had a chemical burn. Now of course, Burt's Bees being organic, it wasn't a chemical, per-se` but more of the menthol, and I'm here to tell you, my thighs and butt hurt for a while after I got out too. Be careful for your whoo-ha!
LOL!

So, my suggestion is with the Burt's Bees be sure to swirl it around with your hand, and feel the bottom of the bowl to see if they are all mixed with the water. Don't rest your skin on the concentrated bath crystals. It hurts.

But don't let that scare you off from buying it! I do like it, and I love that it comes in such a large  heavy duty container. It's almost like a paint can, you have to pry the lid off- and inside is a bag of the crystals. You can dump it in the can, as I did, or leave it in the bag. I recommend not using much of either product in your bath water. I suppose these items can be used out of the bath too. Such as put into a tub to soak your tired old feet in. As I will be trying this out later tonight!

Which one did I like best?
If I was running low on money, I'd prefer the Burt's Bees, if I was splurging for luxury, then I'd say the Kae.

It smells woodsy, and not perfume-y. I think this might be a nice change, but the pine smell is very strong. Such a pretty bottle. Love that it's natural.
