MyBlogSpark: Progresso Recipe Starters #review + #flashGiveaway 7 days long!

I recently got the chance to review Progresso Recipe Starters. What they are not is a soup, which is strange, because when you think of Progresso (or when I think of them) I automatically think of canned soup. But I am very glad they are branching out. Apparently they also have a boxed dinner set too now, which I was unaware of until tonight, when my mother called and said she was making their lasagna kit.

But this review isn't about that, so lets move on!

I was most excited to get this FABULOUS Joesph Joesph serving spoon w/ spinning carousel set (arv $50) with the 2 cans of Progresso Recipe Starters. You'll be excited for it too, since this is a FLASH GIVEAWAY! That means, at the bottom of this review, leave ONE comment saying something like:

"I want to win, and I am most excited to try .. (INSERT NAME of sauce)"

PLEASE make sure you leave one of the sauces names in the comment, and be sure to "Like" this blog post too, so your friends can also get the opportunity to enter and win. This giveaway is ending on 12/15 (noon eastern), so VERY short entry time.

If you want to thank me for hosting this, you could also tweet this post, but no entries will be earned for it. Please limit your entries to one comment/entry per person.
My last Progresso Giveaway was super successful, and dare I say-- this prize is MUCH better!!!

Now ironically, when I accepted this review, I didn't realize what I was getting into. Not "getting into" as in, anything hard  but  perhaps what I mean to say is: I didn't quite read the press release. I like Progresso, and I trust MyBlogSpark, so I just accepted the spark.
Now ironically, a few days before it came in the mail, I was at Wal-Mart and saw an impulse item sitting by the register. It was this item! I thought: Oh hey! That looks cool, I can use it to make dinner. It was very affordable too, around a buck fifty, so I threw it in the buggy! Lucky for me, they sent two other flavors and I didn't end up with 2 of the same kind (there are 5 in all):

At each of the above links, you will find some fabulous recipes and information like nutrition info for each flavor/variety!

Progresso Recipe Starters sauces are available in five flavorful varieties that can each be used as a starter to create numerous home-cooked meals. For added inspiration, Progresso created 80 recipes utilizing this new line of cooking sauces that can be found on Progresso.com/RecipeStarters. Many of these recipes are classic family favorites, such as Bacon Mac n’ Cheese, Chicken Pot Pie and Chicken Parmesan, and utilize ingredients your family may already have on-hand. In addition, all of the recipes on the site include a Rate and Review feature, so we encourage you to leave a rating and review of your own, in which you can even include a link back to your blog post about that recipe! Look for Progresso Recipe Starters in the soup aisles!
Inspired by the five “Mother” Sauces that form the basis of classical French cooking, including Béchamel, Velouté, Tomato, Espagnole and Hollandaise, Recipe Starters use a variety of ingredients and the best techniques to make sure you have delicious options to take on the school days dinner dilemma. The five varieties are:
  • Creamy Parmesan Basil: This creamy, full-bodied and indulgent sauce that was inspired by alfredo and creamy pesto sauces can be used to make dishes such as Crispy Garlic-Parmesan Chicken, Creamy Chicken Alfredo, Basil Chicken Ravioli Carbonara and Basil Chicken Thai Noodle
  • Creamy Roasted Garlic with Chicken Stock: With caramelized, roasted chicken broth, garlic and a touch of cream, this stock is perfect for dishes such as Creamy Lemon Chicken, Chicken Pot Pie and Chicken Enchiladas
  • Fire Roasted Tomato: A medium-thick tomato sauce, accompanied by flavors of roasted, caramelized tomatoes, oregano and bell peppers, which can be used as a great way to begin creating  Pulled Chicken Sandwiches, Easy Weeknight Chicken Parmesan, Cheese-stuffed Mini Meat Loaves and Mole Tacos
  • Creamy Portabella Mushroom: Creamy and highly indulgent, this smooth sauce is rich with sautéed Portabella mushrooms,  giving you any easy way to start delicious dishes like Easy Weeknight Beef Stroganoff, Steak and Mushroom Sandwich and Tetrazzini
  • Creamy Three Cheese: Rich and creamy with a blend of yellow and white cheeses, and a savory background of chicken stock, onion, garlic and cracked pepper, this is a great way to satisfy cheese lovers with Easy Weeknight Bacon Mac & Cheese, Twice-Baked Potato Pizza and Cheesy Egg Breakfast Tacos

I used the Creamy Parmesan Basil to make homemade Shrimp Alfredo  I added a little cream and Parmesan in, for good measure. I didn't use one of their recipes, but it doesn't take a genius to make Alfredo . just sayin'. If you don't know how, it's fairly simple, you need butter, salt, Parmesan  and I use heavy whipping cream, but I know you can use other dairy like half & half or whole milk. You just simmer the sauce, milk, or heavy whipping cream and slowly add in grated Parmesan, stirring occasionally on a low heat. It thickens like crazy, so you just add a spoonful at a time, waiting a few minutes before adding another but constantly stirring, until your sauce is at the right consistency. I don't have a recipe for it (that's why this isn't a cooking blog.. sorry!)
because I more "cook by eye" which I refer to like playing piano by ear, it's just something you are either born to do, or not to do. I rarely follow directions, and even when I do Google recipes, I tweak them to my satisfaction, never the "right amounts" or the suggested amounts.

I have yet to use the Four Cheese sauce, but I am REALLY looking forward to it!!!

I did use the mushroom sauce.. I made chicken & rice! I usually use rice, chicken, fresh mushrooms and cream of mushroom soup, but I replaced the cream of mushroom soup with this Progresso Creamy Portabella Mushroom, and whaddaya know? It was FAB-U-LOUS honey!

I do suggest adding this to your pantry for quick dinners, it seems like a nice staple to have around and seems to me, can be used for tons of things! I do want to try the recipe on their site with the sauce I have yet to use, (I always save the best for last) Easy weeknight bacon, mac-n-cheese BUT I am really trying to watch my weight and what I eat until I go home to visit with family for Christmas, so it'll be something I'll be trying later!

This giveaway will end on NOON eastern on 12/15. I rarely close giveaway at their exact ending time, so if your comment is time-stamped on Google after that time it will be deleted. (Sorry!) The winner will have 48 hours to confirm win and reply with a shipping address. Winner will be emailed and their name will appear on this blogs Facebook page!

Tasty Peach Studios #review for the L of E #holidayGiftGuide

Tasty Peach Studios makes Japanese inspired 100% cute like: phone charms, plushies, clothing, jewelry (earrings, necklaces, rings) paper goods, and even messenger bags & hair clips!

I had such a hard time choosing just one set! I almost got the bat set, but at the last minute I ended up deciding to purchase the dragon earrings and necklace set, and aren't they too stinking cute????
They have the CUTEST Jewelry ever!!!

A cute pair of baby red dragon whelpling earrings.
Acrylic is 100% waterproof, scratch resistant, and shatter resistant! Charm is approx. 0.8 inches, suspended from earring hooks. All jewelry is hypoallergenic and nickel free!

Acrylic red dragon charm suspended from a silver tone necklace chain.

Acrylic is 100% waterproof, scratch resistant, and shatter resistant! Charm is approx. 1.5 inches. All jewelry is hypoallergenic and nickel free!

Thought seriously about getting one of their dinosaur sets, like the Tyrannosaurus, the Triceratops, or the Stegosaurus! You should search your website for those, especially if you like the Dragon Earrings I bought too!

The Dragon earrings are only $10, and the Dragon Necklace is also only $10. I think that definitely qualifies for a steal. Right now at Holiday Season, these would make a perfect stocking stuffer for anyone, of any age! One day, when I'm a grandma, I hope I still wear cute stuff like this!!!

Now, I only need the Dragon Charm, but it's only $5 (all their charms are!)

And you ALL know, I love owls....
But you know, if the rough and tough animals, like dinosaurs & dragons aren't really your style, they have the cutest Rainbow Pegasus collection too! There is a softer side there too, like the ramen noodles kitty!

You know, overall, this company is 5 stars (all around!) on everything. Not only is the whole site stocked with more cute things than my little head can handle, they ship fast, and they also ship to other countries, such as the UK. But, the best part: they are soooo affordable. My set cost $20 and shipping was a lot cheaper than you'd think. 2.50 per item, I do believe!

Imagine how impressed I was to learn they have a million views on Deviant Art! Also, do not forget to "Like" them on Facebook! They have giveaways there sometimes!
They have an impressive following of 90,000+!

Nickelodeon #HolidayGiftGuide: Musical Learning Plush (Milli)

 Musical Learning Plush (Milli) review!
Play and learn with Milli and Geo with two modes of play: 1) Interactive Learning - Press to learn shapes, letters and numbers! 2)Musical Activities - Sing along, make music and play counting games.

AGE 2-5
I can't help it, I'm a hip-hop fan, and every time I hear this character's name; "MILLI"  I start singing Lil wayne: A Milli..
The back of the box
I have actually reviewed a DVD of this cartoon before, and I know my kids adore this show. I do remember when it first came out a few years back, I wasn't fond of it, but it's funny how much, and how fast it grew on me. I guess you might as well like your kids TV shows, since your subjected to them all day long, the same episodes, over & over & over.. but one thing I have to say, this show doesn't get annoying to me, I actually find myself unknowingly singing along.
(You do that too, right?)
Also, the doll plays the same very cute songs from the show. I love that this show and doll teaches her shapes too! She has learned a lot from the doll and the show already! Gotta love that pre-school learning can be wrapped up into creative or imaginative play, it's a beautiful thing. I think this doll does an awful lot, so that's good, it means, you toddler won't get bored with it too quickly.
She makes learning shapes, numbers, colors AND A.B.C's fun!!!!
I was glad they sent Milli, instead of Geo though. I only wish there was a Bot doll, since he is our favorite character.
One thing she is loud, like most kids toys. I also think she's a tad bit overpriced, but that is probably because she is such a new toy. Surely the price will drop a little bit later on.
Even knowing that, strangely I would pay the 30$ for this toy though, so perhaps I am just cheap frugal.
Perfect gift addition for the small child in your life, boy OR girl!

Introducing Fisher-Price Team Umizoomi Learning Adventure Plush - Math Mission Milli! Math Mission Milli is a highly interactive and huggable 12" plush. Squeeze any of the 7 activation points on Milli to learn numbers, counting, shapes, colors, ABC's and more! Interactive musical activities reinforce learning while keeping the child engaged!

Since 1930, Fisher-Price has been in business to create toys that fascinate and stimulate a child's imagination. Fisher-Price was founded in 1930, hardly the best time to launch a new business as the shadows of the Depression still loomed over American business. Still, Herman Fisher, Irving Price and Helen Schelle combined their diverse manufacturing and retailing experience to create a toy company and confidently brought 16 wooden toys to the International Toy Fair in New York City. The whimsical nature and magical surprises of those firstFisher-Price toys quickly caught on and became the hallmarks of Fisher-Price ever since. Fisher-Price believes in the potential of children and in the importance of a supportive environment in which they can grow, learn, and get the best possible start in life. Fisher-Pricesupports today's families with young children through our breadth of products that includes GeoTrax, Imaginext, Little People, Laugh and Learn, Thomas the Tank, Thomas and Friends, Elmo, Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, Sesame Street, Smart Cycle, Ni Hao Kai-Lan, Toy Story and other learning toys and pretend play items.

SRP $19.99 at Target for $19.99

What we had to say?
So much cuter and bigger than we even thought it would be. Not too big, not too little. I put this one up for Christmas, so my little one has yet to see her. But I can tell you, of all the decorative pillows we own, she is the only one who can be used as a toy for pretend play also. I only wish she came with a sound button in her hand or microphone that made her sing, I felt all around for it, but alas, there is none. I was sorely disappointed, since I assumed she would come with one, especially since she has a microphone in her hand.. I was more than puzzled.
Still, I do think she is well worth the 20$ on her suggested retail price tag, and I know my kids are gonna love her! My girls (even the eldest, aged 7) adore them some Dora!!! In fact-- as soon as I uploaded this picture to my facebook page, I had two of my girlfriends write me trying to buy her from me. I kindly let them know she is available everywhere this year, and sent a link to purchase it at Target! (Get your own! .. LOL!)
