Book review: "WHAT WAS THAT SOUND!?" of The Ghost of Graylock by Dan Poblocki YA by Scholastic

Seriously, the kids are asleep, what was that noise?
Sooo yeah!  ...
This book was amazing! You wont be disappointed if you're looking for a scare!

Graylock hall, a place meant to be for healing, is shut down because several young patients died under certin circumstances. It was left to rot in woods. Neil cady comes to vist in town, but he only wants to keep Graylock for himself. But does he know what he is getting into?

Suspenseful after suspenseful page - you don't want to go to sleep because your scared- but also because the stroy is good. I lost several hours one night reading this book! It it will scare you with it's vivid descriptions of horrific scenes. I know Giana (age 7) is much too young for this book.  Especially since it had me sleeping with the closet light on for a few nights.

My favorite part was when they went looking for Nurse Janet! had me on the edge of my seat! :o

Scholastic sent me this book for free, but my opinions are my own, and I do recommend you buy this book if your into YA/Thriller! :)

What dark secrets haunt this abandoned asylum?

A spooky, standalone ghost story a la John Bellairs or Mary Downing Hahn.

Neil Cady and his older sister Bree are spending the summer in a small town in the Catskills. His part-time job at a pie shop is less than exciting, but the town's not a total bust. Some of the kids he's met tell spooky stories about an abandoned psychiatric hospital in the nearby woods.

Graylock Hospital, known locally as "the Asylum," was built on an island in the center of a small lake. It fell into disrepair when it closed its doors nearly twenty years ago. Naturally, Neil has to check it out.

After his initial exploration of the dangerously derelict building, Neil starts experiencing strange things. Scary things. Why is he being haunted by the ghost of a teenage girl dressed in white? What is her connection to the Asylum? She won't stop tormenting Neil until he uncovers the truth behind what went on there . . . and why the Asylum was really shut down.

Twelve year old Neil and his sixteen year old sister Bree have been sent, all unwilling, to stay with their aunts for the summer in upstate New York. Their father has taken off to pursue a dream of acting, and their mother has fallen into deep depression. And so Neil finds himself at loose ends, with nothing to do but worry at his mother's retreat into dark absence.

But this small town of Hedston has a dark secret. Off in the woods lurks Graylock Hall, an old, abandoned insane asylum for children...and there, the stories go, Nurse Janet murdered three of her charges, drowning them in the weed-filled lake. With two local boys, Neil and Bree set off the explore the asylum...where Nurse Janet's ghost supposedly still walks.

And indeed, there is a ghost. One who torments Neil and Bree with nightmares and horrible visitations, one who won't rest until they can figure out just what she wants. And as the haunting grows in intensity, so does the danger Neil and Bree are in...
