#giveaway - Win an award winning Eat Your Fruits & Veggies DVD 7/31

***CLOSED!!!***

As a mom of TWO picky eaters, I know that getting kids to eat the right food is more than frustrating. I think this DVD is extremely helpful and I liked loved it. Devonny was sort-of disinterested in it (she is only 2 years old) she seems to steer more towards cartoons, and lots of boisterous singing & dancing on the programs she watches.. There was music- but it was slight and she seemed to not get into it as much. Perhaps in time as we watch it more. On the other hand, it was far too baby-ish for my eldest daughter who is 7 (going on 20) so that being said - I believe this DVD is more appropriate for ages 3 1/2 to 5 1/2.

I have included some throwback pics of my kids eating vegetables in this post, but some of them are older..

However, while my kids don't necessarily fall into those age ranges.. I could see how this DVD would work and I do think it is brilliant.
What I like best is the real face to face time with each kid as they eat the vegetables. Oh Copy Kids- if only it were that easy.

Copy-Kids is an award winning dvd
The only real con I even found with the video was probably the DVD's navigation. In and of itself it was neatly set up, but I didn't see an option to "play all" Each segment with each child is around eight-ten minutes long and requires a little too much of the parent. I hate losing remotes so I keep them tucked far away from the kiddies. I also use educational DVD's and movies as a distraction, since my husband is deployed so often and I have no family to help with the kids..it can be hard to even take a shower, get dressed, or clean up the house. None of which can I do with this DVD as I have to stop and go put it on the next segment so often.

Copy-Kids makes video content encouraging positive habits in young children by encouraging them to copy other kids. Click here for the DVD trailer
Going grocery shopping with Ma.

Kids will eventually learn to eat things on their own. Each time you introduce it, and make them eat a few bites they will get more and more used to it.
For instance, my eldest daughter, Giana would not touch carrots, squash, broccoli, or salad back in  the day.
We see who is more stubborn in this argument, as she eats them... now.
While she still doesn't care for salad, she will at least pick at it now.

She gradually came into her own about carrots and squash and broccoli, the trick with them is to cover it with cheese. While cheese isn't so healthy its better than the alternative which is no carrots, squash or broccoli at all.
And since cheese has dairy in it, and growing children need dairy- its easy to justify the cheese.
Some things though, even watching a DVD is not going to help. Some kids just don't prefer certain things. I know onions is a big one, that even adults do not like, but I love onions (now) but as a child I despised them with a passion.
I mean, think about it..
A recent pic! Devonny eating blackberries & raspberries (w sugar however) ...

Aren't there STILL vegetables you do not eat as an adult?
Perhaps your taste-buds might make them taste different to you , as opposed to the person who loves them so?

Here's a great example:
Giana doesn't like any sort of melon. It doesn't matter which one. Watermelon, cantaloupe or Honeydew, she despises them all equally. Which is unusual because melons are so sweet. At first I thought she just didn't like the texture of watermelon. My husband (that little trickster) cut up a plate of strawberries for Giana one day, and cut a piece of melon to look like a strawberry and cleverly concealed it in a plate of sliced strawberries and handed it to her..
Can you spot the two pieces that aren't real strawberries?

I thought she wouldn't notice it, and I could prove once and for all it was all in her mind. I mean,  really? Not like melon? THAT'S  ABSURD!!! Everyone else in the house eats it.
But you know what happened?

She ate the watermelon look alike "strawberry" and within two seconds she had spit it across the room. Yes, she did!

You can sneak in shaved carrots into your spaghetti sauce, or even bell peppers, but for some kids, picking up a raw bell pepper as seen in the movie and munching on it... Might be something it's best not to get your hopes up for. Just saying.
Yummy orange slices.
But I do think the DVD is a great start into showing them that kids can eat ( and like, more importantly) vegetables that they think are gross. And it might just make them resist less.
Resistance is futile.!!!!
