When cardboard creatures come magically to life, a boy must save his town from disaster.

After Cam's down-and-out father gives him a cardboard box for his birthday, they fashion it into a man and it comes magically to life. But things spin wildly out of control when the neighborhood bully, Marcus, steals a scrap of the cardboard to create creatures that promptly disobey his orders and multiply into an unruly army. Before long, Cam and Marcus must put their differences behind them and work together to prevent a legion of cardboard monsters from taking over the whole town!

Doug TenNapel was raised in the town of Denair, California. In 1994, he created Earthworm Jim, a character who would go on to star in video games, toy lines, and cartoon series. Doug is an Eisner award-winning artist, and his first graphic novel for Scholastic, GHOSTOPOLIS, is a 2011 ALA Top Ten Great Graphic Novels for Teens. His most recent graphic novel from Scholastic, BAD ISLAND, has been published to critical acclaim. Doug lives in Glendale, California, with his wife and four children.

What we thought:

I have actually never read a graphic novel before this one! I didn't know quite what to expect! What I got was a page-turning story I couldn't put down, that literally kept me up at night! The pictures are remarkably detailed and make the characters in the story seem more life-like. I felt as if I knew them. The story itself didn't bore me not once, and I am now looking into reviewing other titles like this, and by the same author!
This book isn't slated for release until August, but you should definitely give it a look-through, especially if you get into graphic novels. I could see this being appropriate for pre-teen boy's perhaps even older. I myself get into a ton of YA, even better than I get into book that are supposed to be age appropriate for me.
This book was quite long, but since it is not filled with text (mostly pictures) , it actually read faster than I thought it would and I finished it in two insomniac nights!
Overall I give it 5 stars out of 5, and would absolutely recommend this book to you.

Anyone own the Twilight Turtle by Cloud B?

If I had a Twilight Turtle it would look something like this! :)

Twilight Turtle is a plush toy that transforms any room into a starry constellation!  I have always wanted one for my kids, but have never had the pocket change to the attune of $35 to shell out (like my pun?) for one.  Since I can't afford the turtle itself, I thought the book by the same company would be cute. It would be especially adorable if I owned the Turtle, But perhaps someone you know already has one?

This book is a perfect accompaniment for the toy, you could buy them together or separately or- in any order, really!!! The little book's turtle also lights up and tells the story of a little boy and his twilight Turtle!!! Devonny loves it!

Perhaps loves turning the light off and on repeatedly. But then, she is only 2. I gotta get one of these Twilight Turtles now!

My Turtle and Me   by Owen Bernstein (Author), Carol Thompson (Illustrator)
September 2012  $9.99 3 And Under Board book
 10 pages
An interactive light book based on the bestselling Twilight Turtle by Cloud B.

I snuggle with my turtle and hug him real tight.
I took this pic of the book (all lit up!) in the dark!
He cuddles next to me and hugs me right back.
My turtle shines when we hug!

Made in association with Cloud B, the baby sleep specialists, follow a young child and his turtle as they do everything together! Includes a turtle-shaped night light visible on every page, just like the real thing.

Carol Thompson is an internationally recognized children's book illustrator. Her illustrations have earned her many awards including the Frank Warner Golf Award, the Mother Goose Award for Children’s Book Illustrations, and the Oppenheim Gold Award. KLUTZ - Turn bottle caps into wearable art! (Book Review)

Mini Capsters Jewelry: Turn Bottle Caps Into Wearable Art   by Eva Steele-Saccio

Another Scholastic review? No way!
Yes, yes way! I am getting to love this company! Who am I kidding? I have always loved Scholastic, and it is definitely a name I remember growing up with. So looking forward to those awesome Book Fairs, no? When they have them at my child's school, I ALWAYS buy her a book, I do not care how broke I am, it is a part of growing up that I want her to have good memories of.
It is oh-so important to foster a love of reading I cannot emphasize that enough. Giana started reading easy books at 4 and now she has just turned 7 and she is devouring chapter books. It is nice to get a break from all the educational reading and do some reading about something she loves! Being crafty!!!

This little set comes with everything you need, jewelry making bands, glue, gemstones, and all the works to get your own little jewelry made for you and your friends. I hope she makes me one! I have flipped all through it and it is very thorough and shows pictures depicting what should be done step by step along the way!

The book is appropriate for ages 9+ I definitely agree with that! Giana needs a good bit of help to do this. Shes a rush into it first, ask questions later, and that is the only drawback to her owning this cute little book!
She has a tendency to mess up what she is working on beyond repair and the book (in my opinion) didn't quite have enough "capsters" to have room for error.
I know the book retails $21.99 and that to me; seems entirely too much for this book. I would give about 15.99 and that might be pushing it.
Comes with: 15 mini bottle caps, 3 big bottle caps, custom glaze, cord, beads, jewels, sequins, earring wires, clasps, jump rings

Turn pre-punched bottle caps into stylish jewelry. Simply squirt some Klutz glaze into a bottle cap and embellish with any of 250 punch-out art pieces, jewels, sequins, or beads. Then follow the super-easy instructions to transform the bottle caps - regular or adorably mini - into gorgeous chandelier earrings, charming charm bracelets, chic pendant necklaces, and more.
I couldn't find a link to the item on Scholastic however, so here is a link to it on Klutz's website: www.klutz.com/Mini-Capsters-Jewelry

Do bear in mind, the Book Fair comes to your child's school at least 2x a year, right? You can always look for it there as well!

This book has won a Parents Choice Award!!!

882 1/2 Amazing Answers to Your Questions About the Titanic

The bestselling title reissued-more than 125,000 copies in print!

882 1/2 Amazing Answers to Your Questions About the Titanic  by Hugh Brewster (Author), Laurie Coulter (Author), Ken Marschall (Illustrator)
96 pages

Reissued for Spring 2012 to coincide with the anniversary of the sinking of the TITANIC in April 1912.

Here is the one book with all of the answers to your questions about the TITANIC! This is the heart-stopping story about the legendary ship--from the building, maiden voyage, and tragic sinking, to its high-tech discovery on the ocean floor. Special features include the making of the James Cameron movie, true-or-false quizzes, and real-life stories of the young people who sailed on the fateful journey. Illustrated with dozens of paintings, diagrams, and rare photographs.

Hugh Brewster has written several books for children and young adults. You can visit him at

Laurie Coulter is a children's book author who specializes in historical nonfiction. She lives with her husband in Toronto. You can learn more about her at www.lauriecoulter.net

Ken Marschall is a painter who is best known as the world's foremost creator of Titanic artwork. You can see more of his paintings at  www.kenmarschall.com .

What we thought:

I am a Titanic fanatic! What I mean by that is, I really get into watching movies and learning about the Titanic.

I recently took my daughter to the re-release of Titanic in 3D! I loved it just as much a few months ago as I did years ago when I was very little and watched it. Gosh- I have seen it so many times and it never gets old.

When I stumbled across this book, I just knew it would be perfect for me. I love a good "bathroom reader" and I love having books in my BR, especially to soak in a hot tub whilst reading.
I devoured this book of facts in the very first day I got it in the mail. Ok- I might have gotten the pages corners a teensy bit wet!
I did actually learn a few things I didn't already know!

This book has many illustrations, and is similar to a magazine. The pictures in it are extremely interesting, as they depict actual people and events and pictures from then, and now.

For instance, did you know?
  1. What room was the grandest of all on the Titanic?
  • The First Class Lounge was decorated to look like a palace room from  Versailles. It had elaborately carved and a marble fireplace on which stood a classical statue which read: "ARTEMIS OF VERSAILLES"
2.   Were any passengers on their Honeymoons?
  • 13 couples traveling on the Titanic were on their Honeymoons. Eight of them were in 1st class.
3.  Can you really smell Icebergs before you see them?
  • Yes! Look out Archie Jewell had told his mate, George Symons "You can smell the ice before you even get to it." Passenger Elizabeth Shutes recalled that the air that evening smelled strange, like the ice cave in Switzerland Eiger Glacier . Icebergs break off from icebergs in Greenland. The minerals in them give off a distinctive odor as the icebergs melt on their journey south.
4.  What happened to the dogs on board?
  • A passenger went to the kennels and released them after the lifeboats had all gone. Survivor R. Norriss Williams later found himself face to face in the water with a champion bulldog Gamon DePycombe   * :(  *.

I LOVE this book! TWO thumbs up!!!

Scholastic Lalaloopsy BOOKS REVIEW! School Day & Halloween Surprise!

Price:

Ages 4 to 8, Grade P Paperback / softback Juvenile Fiction / Toys, Dolls, & Puppets

A school themed reader just in time for back to school!

In this level 2 easy-to-read story, Bea Spell-a-Lot is hosting a "school day" for all her friends. Each girl will teach her friends how to do something new. Crumbs Sugar Cookie will teach her friends how to bake. Dot Starlight will teach her friends about the planets. Spot Splatter Splash will give a painting lesson, etc. What a great way to spend the day!

what we thought:
This slender little easy reader was so cute. The ages suggest 4+, however, this seems more appropriate IMHO (in my humble opinion) for ages 3+. I have been in love with these dolls since they first released to stores, and I am tickled to own two of the books for my kids! It should be noted, of course- that my kids ALSO love Lalaloopsy, but I might just like them more!
I think they are so darn cute, and these books are too! The pictures in the books got my littlest girl (age 2) all excited and pointing, apparently, she approves!!!!

• Most exciting new doll introduction of Holiday 2010-named "hottest toy" by all major sources-over 95% sell-through

• Unique characters with individual stories that capture the imaginations of young kids

• Robust, dedicated website featuring games, environments, and interactive activities; new features added weekly at http://www.lalaloopsy.com/

what we thought:
I liked this Lalaloopsy book even more than the first (above. The girls love the Marina Anchors character and liked seeing their favorite dolls dressing up for Halloween. The story was just long enough to keep my 7 year old's attention, and just short enough to keep my 2 year old's attention. I was impressed with the book itself, and am looking forward to adding some other Lalaloopsy titles like this to our bookshelf!

On to the review!!!
This is my second review of Discovery Girls magazine... read my first here:  Click here to read it!!! !

I love that Discovery Girls is providing entertainment, in magazine form for a hard pressed to find genre. There are magazines aplenty for kids, and teens, but none really for the pre-teen girl! Some of the fashion magazine, such as gossip or high profile expensive fashion have a lot of sexually related images and in fact do actually talk about sex! That is not something my child is ready to see, nor am I ready to talk about. Tad bit early for that! I don't have to worry that she is reading something entirely superficial because Discovery Girls Magazine has age-appropriate articles that help build self-confidence, and even better-- your child can write to them and ask them questions too. Things they might not want to ask you, as a parent, for whatever reason.. such as? A crush on a child at school.. or something of that nature.

I am about to send my niece Lynzey back home, and she is definitely in the right age-bracket for this magazine! I have had her a little bit ( about 2 weeks ) this summer. We live far from where we grew up, so it's important to let the kids spend time together, as much as my patience will allow any-who!

She is 11 and she LOVES this magazine, she has it in hand constantly and I think she's read all 3 that were sent this time!
The magazine has super glossy hi-res pics and it really seems to grab their attention!
Two thumbs up from me!!

DWD Shoes sinful prices! Pink snake strappy open toe platform sandals & zip up knee high sneaker boots review

DWD Shoes is an awesome site I stumbled upon last year. I liked it so much, I added it's button to my sidebar! I know that doesn't sound like much, but it's the highest compliment I can give! I rarely put anyones button there, so If I have someone's image on my sidebar, they must be awesome! I have been sick with the cold, and this Hurricane Debby rolling through has kept the kids inside more (there's been tons of rain dumped here, and the yards are all flooded, heck! Many of the streets too!) So I've had 3 kids to tend to, left little time for me to do blogging! This rain + my cold has left me groggy & tired! I must be getting old!

But not too old for these pink snake strappy open toe platform sandals and the blue star knee high sneaker boots that DWDShoes sent to me! They have that young/teen flair, and I can't say I'd see an "old woman" wearing them, so maybe I'm not so old after all! Actually, they told me that the blue star zip up knee high sneaker/boots is one of their all time best sellers (in all patterns, and there are several to choose from!) & they are only $14.99!!!

You will find a RAFFLECOPTER widget to place entries on to win a pair of shoes of your own, US 18+ only arv $24.99 and under $!  Click here to be re-directed to the giveaway post!

I want to show you those first:

Made with a side zipper for no hassle easy on-and-off wear and non-skid rubber soles, these blue and white twinkling star print sneakers will inspire you to be or continue to be a great leader! These shoes are very tall platforms. It looks daunting and like it would be incredibly hard to walk in, but I have to say they are quite easy to walk in, and extremely comfortable. I noticed that no one else seem to have commented on them using the Facebook plugin on the DWD Shoes site, because many of the things on the site do have comments, but I do want to attest that these shoes are not only gorgeous, affordable, comfortable.. I can't express to you just how much I adore these shoes!!!
Can you believe they are only $18 !?

Here are my pictures of them!

I also loved these!!!
