Rocking Your Holiday Beauty Look With Shades of Shimmer and Shine

How to Rock Your Holiday Beauty Look

The holidays are the most festive time of year and there is no reason women can't get festive with their looks as well. Forget the conservative look you may sport the rest of the year. Let the glitter and glitz you see in the storefronts transfer to you and jazz yourself up. Luckily, there's no shortage of products available to help with that endeavor.

Festive Fingernails
Throw out the fall tan and browns on your nails and go for a rich red for your December manicure. A glittery clear coat can finish the look, or you can choose colors already made with glitter like OPI's Diamond-Infused series and Deborah Lippman's Glam Set of red, silver and pearly white. Blue and purple shades are also options that can spice up your New Year's look like Hard Candy's Beetle shade. Get really daring and combine red and blue or opt for gold and silver tones either as an overlay or your overall color.

Luscious Lips
Red does not have to be restricted to your nails. The shade gives your lips a bold look as well. Choose matte colors you can finish off with a shiny, clear gloss like Maybelline New York Sensational Lipstick in Very Cherry. Estee Lauder also offers a line of brilliant holiday reds. Hydra Lustre lipstick in Rich Red and Pure Color lipstick in Cherry Passion and Scarlet Siren are must-haves for the festive season. Estee Lauder's Double Wear Stay in Place lip pencil is the perfect liner to give your holiday lips that extra pop.

Highlighted Hair
There is no better time of the year to go bold and striking on the highlights. Rather than a cap, have your salon use foils so the highlights are more chunky and stand out in the often cold and drab days of early winter. Shades of blonde and red work well and can be finished off for a day or night glittery touch. Shiny rhinestone-encrusted headbands and clips can help style your hair while glitter sprays like Jerome Russell Silver Hair and Body Glitter. As the name suggests, this product can give your skin that extra shine as well.

Finally, a few do's and don'ts when choosing your festive look.
  • Do choose the right atmosphere for your shine.
  • Don't wear body and hair glitter for a day at the office, but save it for an office party of night on the town instead.
  • Do choose the lip color that will suit your skin tones. Rich reds come in a variety of shades and you don't want yours to drown out your skin, but instead work naturally with your facial features.
  • Don't let the holidays stress you out. Your skin may pay for all that stress and negate the shine you want to show.
  • Do partner these bright beauty products with the right fashion choices. Red, silver and gold sweaters work well with black slacks or skirts. A red wool coat will also stand out and can be worn beyond the holidays.
