Top 3 Benefits of Eco-friendly Lighting in Your Home
Eco-friendly home lighting has many benefits, both esthetic and practical. Here are three very important reasons to convert from your old system. Also, here are some lighting concepts that you may not have considered, which you may wish to incorporate in your new lighting plan.
1. Lower Cost
There are many ways to lower your electric bill by installing eco-friendly lighting in your home. The easiest way is to replace all your incandescent light bulbs with Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs. A 32 watt CFL will furnish as much light as a 100 watt incandescent bulb, with savings of $30 or more in electricity over time. Other savings can be achieved by using daylight and sunlight to the best advantage during the daylight hours. Light-colored walls and furnishings may lighten a room and eliminate the need for electric lights in the daytime. Skylights may be installed at moderate cost, especially if you have cathedral ceilings, which will bring cheery daylight inside.
A unique lighting system from Sweden, named sunlight transport device, utilizes rooftop solar panels to collect sunlight and distribute it to any room in the home through fiber optic cables. The light is directed into the room via ceiling fixtures resembling traditional lights.
A new generation of light bulbs may eventually replace the CFL bulb. The bulbs are named Light Emitting Diodes. They are much more efficient and longer-lasting than even CFLs. Most LEDs available now are built into a device, but replacement bulbs may be available for general use in the near future.
Both CFLs and LEDs operate much cooler than incandescent bulbs and reduce the cost of air-conditioning.
Yard lights with built-in solar cells are an eco-friendly way to decorate your yard while providing a degree of safety. They are lovely along a walk and can mark the entrance to your driveway.
2. Healthier Environment
Comfortable lighting can have beneficial effects on your health. Utilizing sunlight as much as possible raises the level of vitamin D in your body.
According to some researchers, lack of natural light can affect bodily hormones and increase chances for depression, diabetes and cancer. Sunlight is also known to affect the body's circadian rhythm, which can help solve sleep problems.
3. Saving the Planet
For a believer in global warming, this reason would be number one. If you don't believe in global warming, you will be saving money and helping conserve our natural resources for future generations.

Hi there--I am now following 2 of your blogs! Thank you for the comment on mine from one of the raise your Alexa rating hops--I am here to return the favor--
ReplyDeleteEco-friendly lighting is a great way to help our environment--so is recycling-unfortunately not enough people do it!! I tend not to put the lights on in most of my apartment--Lots of sunlight works just as well in the daytime-at night I keep on one light in my bedroom where my computer is living--and lately where the a/c is staying on non stop (been hot as hades in NY!! and I live on the top floor!)--

What great tips. Most of the light bulbs in our house are eco-friendly and we are working on replacing the rest.
